Pretoria's Historical Buildings


This late Victorian era building in Church Square was completed in 1904 for the businessman, George Heys. It's the only building of its kind in Church Square and cannot be missed.
Completed in 1897, The Staats Meisjes Skool functioned as a school until war broke out in 1899. During the Anglo-Boer War, it was used as a hospital and prisoner of war camp.
The ruins of the only fort designed and built by French architects and completed 1898. This is one of four forts built to protect the city of Pretoria and was originally known as Fort Daspoortrand until the British occupation when it was renamed.
Pretoria's city hall was built in 1935, 4 years after attaining city status. The semi-Italian classical styled building looks out over Pretorius Park with its ponds and statues.
From a Place of Worship to Court of law to a Warehouse. The Old Synagogue in Paul Kruger Street, Pretoria has seen a diverse range of uses.
The oldest surviving building on Pretoria's Church Square. The foundation stone being placed by President Paul Kruger in 1889.
Known as the Paul Kruger church due to it's affiliation with the well known president of the Transvaal.
